Residents near Granbury File Injunction Against Bitcoin Mining Company Due to Noise Pollution
Residents just outside Granbury, Texas, are fighting back against a noisy neighbor that has disrupted their peaceful way of life. A Bitcoin mining facility operated by Marathon Digital Holdings has been accused of creating a constant, loud hum that is causing physical and psychological health problems for those living nearby.
Daniel Lakey, a 55-year-old resident who planned to retire in the quiet countryside, has been recording the noise from the Bitcoin mine for over a year. The recordings show noise levels reaching up to 85 decibels, causing disorientation and sleepless nights for Lakey and his neighbors.
In response to the complaints, Lakey and several other residents have filed a lawsuit against Marathon Digital, seeking a permanent injunction to stop the noise and vibration conditions they claim are unreasonable and discomforting. The plaintiffs are represented by EarthJustice’s Gulf Regional Office, who point to Marathon’s cooling system as the source of the noise problem.
Despite the allegations, Marathon Digital denies any link between their operations and the health problems reported by the residents. The company states that they are in compliance with legal noise limits and are taking steps to reduce noise, including the construction of a sound wall and the conversion to quieter cooling systems.
The rural residents near Granbury are determined to fight for their right to peace and quiet in their community. As the legal battle continues, they hope to find a resolution that will allow them to enjoy their homes without the constant disruption from the nearby Bitcoin mining facility.
