The hashgraph Association and the Exponential Science Foundation launched the Hedera Africa Hackathon 2025, a world event to speed up Web3 and the adoption for artificial intelligence on all the African continent.
With a price pool of 1 million US dollars, the hackathon will run from August 1st to September thirtieth and, in line with a press release, would love to draw over 10,000 participants in 15 African countries.
The event is open to developers, students and entrepreneurs worldwide from two non-profit organizations in Switzerland-based Hashgraph Association and the technical research-oriented exponential science foundation for developers, students and entrepreneurs.
“We need to use technologies that converge web3 with AI to create transparent cognitive solutions, optimize processes and facilitate decision -making and automate the execution,” said Kamal Youssefi, President of the Board of Directors of the Hashgraph Association.
All solutions are built on 4 tracks on the Hedera network: Onchain Finance and Real-World Asset (RWA) toking; ESG sustainability and traceability; Self -German identity (SSI) and AI; And gaming, meta-verses and non-focal tokens (NFTS).
Up to fifteen outstanding teams receive prices based on innovation, effects and orientation on the goals of the hackathon.

This hackathon covers large areas in Africa, with events on site in over 20 African cities equivalent to Lagos, Cairo, Nairobi, Kinshasa, Cape Town, Casablanca and Tunis.
The interest in Africa's Web3 potential grows with greater than 50 partners and 100 universities and tech hubs which have already joined the Hedera Africa Hackathon.
The web3 talents of Africa are ready for global effects
Due to the high inflation, a weak banking system and widespread corruption, many individuals in Africa lack access to reliable financial services. This creates opportunities for web3 projects equivalent to Jambo and Yellow Card to supply alternatives to save lots of and earn.
Kamal emphasized Africa's strength in his “young population with ambitious technical talents”. He quoted Hedera's partnership with Orange, a telecommunications operator, with orange to start out programs for digital empowerment in 16 African countries – initiatives that “include training, certification and establishment of incubation and acceleration centers”.
“Africa offers web3 a novel advantage: a demographic lead and a proven capability for digital acceptance,” said Paolo Tasca, Executive Chairman of the Exponential Science Foundation. “Nevertheless, obstacles remain, especially in the fundamental infrastructure and education.”
Governments also increase talent development. For example, Nigeria recently began an annual initiative to coach 1,000 residents in artificial intelligence and blockchain technologies.
