A single Bitcoin miner hit the jackpot on Friday, earning 3,146 BTC price around $266,000 after solving block 924,569 using only a tiny fraction of the computing power normally required to win a block reward.
The miner, believed to be operating a hobby machine, struck gold at a hash rate of about 1.2 terahashes per second (TH/s), which is a speck of dust in an industry dominated by industrial-scale operations that produce exahashes (a trillion hashes per second).
CKpool creator Con Kolivas announced the victory on X, congratulating the “extremely lucky” miner and stating how unlikely the event was. He estimated that the percentages are about 1.2 million to 1 per day on the miner's reported hash rate.
According to Onchain data, the miner received 3,125 Bitcoin (BTC) from the block subsidy plus 0.021 BTC in transaction fees, for a complete of just over 3,146 BTC.

Solo Bitcoin miners record further profits in 2025
Despite the economic mining landscape, 2025 has turned out to be a powerful 12 months for solo miners. According to Mempool Space, 13 individually mined blocks have been found via CKpool this 12 months, a mean of just over one monthly.
Last month, a single Bitcoin miner secured a $347,455 reward after solving block 920,440 on his own, earning 3,125 BTC plus fees all by himself.
In early July, one other miner claimed a reward for your complete block with just 2.3 petahashes of output, while similar victories were recorded in June, March and already in February.
Bitcoin miners are turning to AI
Large miners are on the lookout for latest revenue streams beyond Bitcoin mining, especially after the recent halving squeezed their margins.
CleanSpark has already begun transitioning to an AI-focused data center infrastructure, a move that sent shares up 13% after the expansion was first announced in October.
TeraWulf also plans to boost $500 million through a convertible note offering to finance construction of a brand new data center campus in Abernathy, Texas.
