Bitmain Issues Statement Denying Involvement in Huawei Supply Chain Investigation

Bitmain, a leading Bitcoin mining equipment manufacturer, has issued a statement refuting recent media reports linking the company to a supply chain investigation involving Huawei. The company emphasized that it is not involved in such investigations and reserves the right to take legal action against outlets spreading false information.

The statement from Bitmain comes in response to reports that Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing Company (TSMC) suspended shipments to China-based chip designer Sophgo after discovering its chip in Huawei’s Ascend 910B AI processor. Huawei is restricted from purchasing such technology due to US national security concerns.

Sophgo, reportedly affiliated with Bitmain through shared co-founder Micree Zhan, had ordered chips from TSMC that matched those found in Huawei’s processor. However, Bitmain stated that it complies with all laws and has never engaged in any business relationship with Huawei.

The US government has expressed ongoing concerns about China’s access to advanced semiconductor technology, particularly in areas related to artificial intelligence and national security. The situation has prompted TSMC to halt shipments to Sophgo and notify US authorities.

By denying any involvement in the supply chain investigation, Bitmain aims to reassure stakeholders and maintain its position in the Bitcoin mining sector. The company’s emphasis on compliance with laws and lack of business relationship with Huawei is crucial in navigating the complex dynamics of the global tech industry.
