Crypto Millionaire Deaths and kidnappings raise questions on crypto crimes

This message led to public speculation and online theories. Some users claimed that he had warned of danger. However, the Puertorican officials said they’d not found any evidence of a criminal act. The beach has been related to other drowning cases prior to now.

Fernando Pérez Algaba found dead in Argentina

On July 23, 2023, the local authorities in Buenos Aires regained a red suitcase with parts of the body. The stays were identified as Fernando Pérez Algaba, a 41-year-old crypto millionaire from Argentina.

Children discovered the suitcase near a stream in Ingeniero Budge. Inside were the legs and the forearm of the victim. The police later found his other arm, her fuselage and his head. An autopsy confirmed three gunshot wounds before the dismemberment.

Popescu was known in 2012 to launch Bitcoin Exchange -MPEX. He was lively in Bitcoin forums and sometimes criticized central systems. The US Securities and Exchange Commission had reportedly examined its exchange before his death.

After the incident, entrepreneur Riccardo Spagni wrote about X:


“Mircea Popescu died last week. He was a most unlikely one that taught me a lot about Bitcoin …”

Popescu was rumored to carry greater than 1 million BTC. However, this number was never confirmed. The fate of the means stays unclear.
